Cloudera

Hybrid data platform for analytics and ML

Growth
Santa Clara, CA
Founded 2008

About

Founded in 2008 by researchers from Yahoo, Google, Facebook, and Oracle, Cloudera commercialized Apache Hadoop and later built the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP)—a hybrid and multi-cloud data lakehouse supporting data engineering, warehousing, machine learning, and operational analytics from a single control plane. After merging with Hortonworks in 2019, Cloudera went private via KKR in 2021. It serves large enterprises in financial services, telecommunications, and government that require regulated, on-premises or hybrid data environments. Cloudera competes with Databricks and cloud-native lakehouses, differentiating on data sovereignty controls, unified security and governance via Apache Ranger and Atlas, and multi-cloud portability.
