LlamaIndex
Data framework for building LLM applications
About
LlamaIndex (originally GPT Index) was launched in November 2022 by Jerry Liu and Simon Suo, both former Uber AI researchers, who incorporated the company in 2023 with $8.5M in seed funding led by Greylock. The framework provides data connectors for 160+ sources—APIs, PDFs, SQL, Notion, Slack—along with indexing abstractions, retrieval pipelines, and agent orchestration primitives for building context-aware LLM applications. LlamaCloud, the managed platform, extends these capabilities with hosted ingestion and retrieval APIs. LlamaIndex is used by AI engineering teams building RAG systems, chatbots, and autonomous agents, and competes with LangChain and Haystack in the LLM application framework space.
