Founded in 2017 by David Hsu, Retool is a development platform that enables engineering teams to build custom internal software rapidly using drag-and-drop UI components, native database queries, and AI-assisted code generation. Over 10,000 organizations including Amazon, Stripe, Adobe, and Brex use Retool to build admin panels, dashboards, approval workflows, and CRUD applications in hours rather than weeks. In 2025, Retool launched AI AppGen, allowing non-engineers to generate production-ready enterprise applications from natural language prompts while enforcing security guardrails and production data policies. The company also signed a multi-year strategic collaboration agreement with AWS to accelerate enterprise modernization workloads.
